- follow the steps oulined below (translated from an Italian email sent to VTE users today):

1 - Re-download the package (it was changed on December 27, 2012)
2 - Check that the PC or server (where you want to install VTE on) is connected to the Internet directly (without any proxy)
3 - Check if the PHP package "cURL" is installed already. If not: Install it and restart the web server
4 - Make sure "short_open_tag" is set to "On" in your php.ini file (short_open_tag = On)
5 - Turn off the PHP package "Suhosin"
6 - After installation: All files & folders within the VTE folder should be set to 755 permissions (eg. chmod -R 755 ... ) and owned by the same owner/group as used for your (other) web server applications (eg. chown -R www-data:www-data ... )
7 - Rename the file ".htaccess" to "htaccess.txt" and restart the web server

Once VTE is up and working, rename "htaccess.txt" to ".htaccess" & modify it according to your security requirements
